2024 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: QB surprises highlight crazy 1st round

Bears: Caleb Williams, QB USC

This pick is really obvious. The Bears are getting a guy they hope to be a mainstay for a long time here.

Commanders: Drake Maye, QB UNC

The more I think about this, the more I think the pick will actually be Maye here. You look at the history of GM Adam Peters and HC Dan Quinn and this is the type of QB they’d lean towards.

Raiders (trade with Patriots): Jayden Daniels, QB LSU

This would shake the top of the draft but I can believe it. Recently Malik Nabers was talking and said people won’t believe where Daniels is going and he was going to reunite with an old friend. The Raiders fit as it would be a shock and Antonio Pierce was a coach at Arizona State with Daniels was there so he could be who Nabers was talking about. I’m also not convinced the Patriots wouldn’t move down and build more before settling on a QB.

Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR OSU

The Cardinals have little motivation to actually move down here. They already have so much draft capital and can instead just take their top player. Marvin Harrison Jr. fits the bill.

Vikings (trade with Chargers): JJ McCarthy, QB Michigan

How about Jim Harbaugh being the one to trade down the pick that becomes JJ McCarthy? Talk about poetic. The Vikings get their guy and the Chargers gain much-needed draft capital.

Giants: Malik Nabers, WR LSU

Speaking of teams that need WR help badly, the Giants. They have a collection of WR 2s and 3s at best. They also need a big-time playmaker to run their offense through with Barkley gone. They can get one here at WR with Nabers.

Titans: Joe Alt, OT Notre Dame

This should be a no-brainer for the Titans. They got a lot in free agency and trade but they need a tackle to protect Will Levis. Joe Alt is a premium prospect at the position.

Falcons: Dallas Turner, EDGE Alabama

After revamping their offense, the Falcons take the first defensive player off the board here.

Colts (trade with Bears): Brock Bowers, TE Georgia

Taking a close glimpse of the Bears draft shows they really need more picks this year. They can get it by moving down. The Colts oblige by moving up to get a big-time TE prospect for Anthony Richardson.

Jets: Olu Fashanu, OT PSU

The Jets could still use an offensive tackle and they have a premium pick to get one here. Rodgers might lobby for another WR but the Jets should see the value here.

Chargers (trade with Vikings): Rome Odunze, WR Washington

Things work out here for the Chargers as they get a WR to help replace Allen and Williams.

Broncos: Bo Nix, QB Oregon

Is this crazy? Probably. Can I see it? Yes. Sean Payton would like Nix and his style and the Broncos didn’t really add to the QB room in any significant way after releasing Wilson. It’s really only Stidham. The Broncos also don’t have a pick after 12 until 76. If they want a QB like Nix, it’s here or never. I really think it could happen here and shock the draft.

Patriots (trade with Raiders): Terrion Arnold, CB Alabama

No, I don’t hate the Patriots even if this mock draft suggests it. The results so far wouldn’t make the fans happy that’s for sure. They did say to have patience with them.

Saints: Taliese Fuaga, OT Oregon State

The Saints add more protection for Derek Carr in hopes that helps him and the offense improve.

Bears (trade with Colts): Jared Verse, EDGE FSU

The Bears trade down and still get a guy they really like here at a position of need.

Seahawks: Michael Penix Jr., QB Washington

There’s a lot of QB craziness in this mock draft. I could see this one too. Washington people on the new coaching staff there and a chance to take Penix might be too good for them to pass up. Geno Smith isn’t irreplaceable by any means.

Jaguars: Brian Thomas Jr., WR LSU

The Jaguars lost Calvin Ridley and need to replace that gaping hole and give Lawrence more help. Thomas Jr. was commonly overlooked by Nabers at LSU but he’s awesome in his own right and is worth this pick.

Bengals: Byron Murphy II, DT Texas

The Bengals fill a hole in the middle of their defense here.

Rams: Quinyon Mitchell, CB Toledo

The Rams are still trying to find their next top CB after Ramsey departed. They try here with Mitchell.

Steelers: Troy Fautanu

The Steelers add a first-round tackle again. Jones and Fautanu could be an awesome tackle duo for a long time.

Dolphins: JC Latham, OT Alabama

The Dolphins add more protection for Tua.

Eagles: Cooper DeJean, DB Iowa

Everyone knows the Eagles need help in the secondary. They prioritize that here. They get another versatile one for their defense.

Chargers (trade with Vikings): Graham Barton, OL Duke

The Chargers do good here to get the versatile guard/center to boost their offensive line that has some holes.

49ers (trade with Cowboys): Amarius Mims, OT Georgia

This is like cats and dogs making a deal but they did make the Lance trade last summer so it’s possible. This time, the 49ers move up to that pick to get the raw but immensely talented Mims who can learn a lot from Trent Williams and develop in a great situation.

Chiefs (trade with Packers): Adonai Mitchell, WR Texas

The Chiefs move up to get the rising Mitchell and get a WR1 type to pair with Marquise Brown. Big revamp for the Chiefs WR room.

Bucs: Laiatu Latu, EDGE UCLA

The Bucs get an edge rusher for Todd Bowles to play around with and a replacement for Shaq Barrett.

Cardinals: Johnny Newton, DT Illinois

The Cardinals got the WR earlier and now they fill another hole with one of the best defensive tackles in the draft.

Bills: Xavier Worthy, WR Texas

With Diggs now gone, there’s a gaping hole at WR for the Bills that Worthy can fill. If they can get him here then that would be an awesome get.

Lions: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB Alabama

The Lions still need help in the secondary and Kool-Aid would be a hard guy to pass on.

Ravens: Chop Robinson, EDGE PSU

The Ravens getting Robinson here to help their defensive line would be a very solid move.

Cowboys (trade with 49ers): Jackson Powers-Johnson, OC Oregon

The Cowboys fill a hole on the offensive line here after moving down.

Packers (trade with Chiefs): Nate Wiggins, CB Clemson

The Packers get the speedy CB to help solidify their defense.
