NFL Mock Draft 2.0

 So I was going to release this mock draft late last week but then the 49ers, Dolphins and Eagles had to do engage in chaos. I love it but it forced me to redo some things. Well, it’s hear now and that’s what matters. 

Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB Clemson:

No need to spend much time on this one. Everyone knows it. It’s obvious. Let’s move on.

Jets: Zach Wilson, QB BYU:

The Jets will talk up Darnold but he won’t be their guy. He’ll be gone. They can’t possibly pass up on Wilson here. Would be a monumental mistake if they did. 

49ers: Mac Jones, QB Alabama:

I don’t do mock drafts based on hope. I do it based on expectations. I hope they take Fields or Lance. My expectation is I’ll be disappointed (again) just like when they passed on Watson and Mahomes for Solomon Thomas. I don’t want to believe the Jones buzz because media buzz about the 49ers is always wrong, but it’s also something I could see Kyle Shanahan doing. I don’t like it but I can see it. I wouldn’t even be surprised. 

Falcons: Kyle Pitts, TE Florida:

This guy is a stud. He’s the best non-QB in this draft given the star power and positional scarcity. He’s going to be scary. 

Bengals: JaMarr Chase, WR LSU

This is a match made in heaven. Joe Burrow threw to Chase in college and can re-unite with him in the pros. Don’t overthink Chase. He’s a stud and will easily step into the role AJ Green left behind. 

Dolphins: DeVonta Smith, WR Alabama :

This would be scary with Parker and Fuller, as well as Gesicki. Tua would get a former Alabama teammate to throw to again too. Perfect match. 

Lions: Jaylen Waddle, WR Alabama: 

Lions need someone to replace Golladay and Jones. Waddle can’t do both, but he’s insanely talented and would provide Goff a great weapon in Detroit. 

Panthers: Justin Fields, QB Ohio State:

This one hurts me. Fields is my guy and I have the 49ers passing on him for him to wind up in Carolina. Matt Rhule would do great with this guy. He’s going to be a superstar QB. Book it. 

Broncos: Trey Lance, QB North Dakota State:

Broncos didn’t expect this guy to fall, but he did. The reason is just his pure rawness and lack of experience at the college level, especially in the FCS. He’s a heck of a talent but there are questions. Broncos will take that chance though. 

Cowboys: Penei Sewell, OT Oregon:

Surprising to see Sewell fall but he has some rawness in his game. He’s going to be great though. Dallas gets a steal here. 

Giants: Gregory Rousseau, EDGE Miami:

The Giants getting Golladay gives them flexibility here to not need a WR. They’ll take a very good pass-rusher instead. A very important piece for any team with hopes to contend. 

Eagles: Rashawn Slater, OT Northwestern:

Eagles trading down doesn’t just tell me they are comfortable going with Hurts but also are comfortable passing on the top 4 playmakers on offense this draft. They need to get younger on the offensive line. Can here. 

Chargers: Christian Darrisaw, OT Virginia Tech:

Chargers need offensive line help to protect Herbert. It’s a good class to get a tackle. 

Vikings: Patrick Surtain, CB Alabama:

Finally the CBs start to get picked. Surtain will help the Vikings secondary immensely.

Patriots: Jaycee Horn, CB South Carolina:

Best pick the Patriots can make here. Pair him with Gilmore and make it happen. I wouldn’t want to throw against that. 

Cardinals: Caleb Farley, CB Virginia Tech:

Cardinals need a corner to replace Peterson. They get one here. 

Raiders: Alijah Vera-Tucker, OL USC:

Raiders decimated their own offensive line to rebuild it for some reason. They draft one here in round 1. They’ll likely draft multiple after this too. 

Dolphins: Micah Parsons, LB Penn State:

Dolphins could use some LB help and this is the first one off the board. They are probably lucky to get Parsons all the way here. 

WFT: Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah, LB Notre Dame:

Now all the LBs going. This will be a great pick for Washington to build the defense more after doing a lot for the offense in free agency. 

Bears: Rashod Bateman, WR Minnesota:

A little bit of a surprise here with the Bears taking a WR. The best way to build up a less than stellar QB is surround them with weapons. The Bears have and will. There are also questions about Robinson’s future in Chicago so Bateman would be great insurance for that too. 

Colts: Azeez Olujari, EDGE Georgia:

Colts have such a good roster that’s hard to find holes in. Adding an edge rusher isn’t bad, whether or not Justin Houston returns. 

Titans: Greg Newsome II, CB Northwestern:

Newsome has risen recently. Don’t be surprised if he’s picked in this range. Titans desperately need CB play. They are redoing the whole secondary. 

Jets: Samuel Cosmi, OT Texas:

The best way to help a rookie QB is with a great offensive line. Drafted Becton last year. That’s a great start. Adding Cosmi would be great too. They’d have two tackles for years to come. Wouldn’t worry about it for awhile. 

Steelers: Creed Humphrey, OL Oklahoma:

Steelers need to build the offensive line with some younger guys again. Humphrey has risen up the charts and could be a 1st rounder. He’d be a great fit here. 

Jaguars: Christian Barmore, DT Alabama:

Jaguars continue to try to rebuild the defense here. 

Browns: Kwity Paye, EDGE Michigan:

Paye is a bit risky but his ceiling is very high. Browns could pair him with Myles Garrett and go nuts. 

Ravens: Kadarius Toney, WR Florida:

I’m not convinced the Ravens are done at WR after adding Watkins. Toney feels like Raven already.

Saints: Zaven Collins, LB Tulsa:

Saints need a young linebacker. Zaven Collins is a great option here. 

Jets (trade with Packers): Travis Etienne, RB Clemson:

Saleh and LaFleur are from the Shanahan tree so spending here at RB doesn’t seem right, but Etienne fits the offense perfectly so maybe just this once. 

Bills: Najee Harris, RB Alabama:

The Bills offense needs a running game. Adding Harris would put the offense on an even greater level. 

Chiefs: Teven Jenkins, OT Oklahoma State:

Chiefs need a tackle clearly. This is a good spot for one. 

Bucs: Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB Syracuse:

Bucs defense gets better to compliment that offense. The defending champs get a bit better.
