Pirates continue to cast a net for many different starters that can help this rotation. For Eovaldi, he has struggled this year, pitching to a 5.11 ERA but is a candidate to pitch at least a bit better than that. He was moved to the bullpen for the Yankees after a rough time in the rotation. However, he is being moved back to the rotation in possibly an attempt to show teams what he has.
Eovaldi was linked to the Pirates a few years back before the Yankees landed him. The Pirates seem to love his plus fastball, and he appears to be a more fixable pitcher for Searage than what he was given this offseason.
I would welcome this trade. I was always high on Eovaldi and wanted him a few years back. He has a couple of years of team control left and would have an acquisition cost a bit lower than many other pitchers on the market, if that's what the Pirates are going for. It seems that the Yankees may feel motivated to move him in an attempt to reload their roster for a future that might not have Eovaldi in it.
