Pirates seem to be up to a lot of setup on day 1 of Winter Meetings

     So far, the Winter Meetings for the Pirates, and many other teams, has been a sluggish go of it. However, that is not such a bad thing. There is a reason why the meetings are over multiple days, after all. This first day, for many teams, is a set up day, instead of diving in head first. Pirates are part of this group. 

     Now, it has still been an interesting day on the Pirates front. Here's the main summary:

Pirates are said to still be interested in Masterson; could be in on Napoli.

There are still a few teams in on Melancon, as well as Walker.

Pirates are meeting with representatives of Scott Kazmir.

Pirates are discussing Moreland trade with Rangers. Rangers said to want a back end starting pitcher.

Rangers are interested in catcher Elias Diaz.

     So yeah, some intriguing stuff, still. I have little doubt the Pirates will come out of the meetings empty-handed. Actually, I think the Pirates could be pretty big players at these meetings. They have the pieces and the payroll flexibility to make some things happen. Neal Huntington and company will do what they can to put the best they can on the field in 2016. Count on that.
